Stratigraphy, palaeoenvironments and geochemistry across the Triassic–Jurassic boundary transition at Carnduff, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

چکیده
The latest Triassic to earliest Jurassic transition has been widely studied due the occurrence of a major global extinction associated with hyperthermal event in this interval. Furthermore, number distinct geochemical events carbon cycle can be recognised stable-isotope record across boundary interval at many localities. Two fully-cored boreholes from East Antrim Northern Ireland (Carnduff-1 and Carnduff-2) have penetrated sediments Early age (Rhaetian Sinemurian). Ammonites, foraminifera, ostracods palynomorphs provide robust chronology as well insights palaeoenvironmental conditions during period. sedimentary palynological evidence support largely marginal-marine setting for Penarth Group while range palaeontological shows that Waterloo Mudstone Formation represents shallow-marine, shelf represent generally well-oxygenated bottom waters, little dysoxia. Detailed ammonite biostratigraphy (ammonites first occur about 7.5 m up base Lias Group) indicates cores continuous sedimentation through Hettangian Sinemurian (to Turneri Chronozone, Birchi Subchronozone). Stable-isotope analysis both carbonate organic show isotope excursion (CIE) fractions Cotham Langport members (Lilstock Formation, Group, Triassic) which are considered correlate distinctive ‘Initial’ CIE witnessed SW England probably GSSP other sites world.

Refined Isotope Stratigraphy across the Continental Paleocene-eocene Boundary on Polecat Bench in the Northern
One of the most continuous and best studied continental stratigraphic sections spanning the Paleocene-Eocene boundary is preserved on Polecat Bench in the northern Bighorn Basin. The mammalian biostratigraphy of Polecat Bench sediments has been well documented, and includes a major reorganization of faunas at or near the P-E boundary. To complement the existing biostratigraphy, we measured the ...
